Q: Magic Trackpad unresponsive when computer wakes

If I don't constantly click and swipe on my bluetooth trackpad when I initiate my computer to wake, the trackpad somehow becomes unresponsive and I have to force-restart the whole machine.

You could say "just keep clicking and swiping and your problem is solved," but sometimes this accidentally opens/modifies apps and documents before the screen comes on. Which is not always good.

Is this a known issue? Any suggestions for a solve?

    Hi John,

I am on Lion (10.8.5), and I did review your attached document.

I don't have my computer wirelessly connected to the internet- it's hard-wired. I do however have my phone and iPad wirelessly connected. I don't usually have them in the same room with me, but this wake-up issue seems to happen every single time upon wake up, whether I have other wireless devices in the room or not.

The one other possibility is that I live in a very small apartment and perhaps the wireless connectivity could be causing a problem from the other room. The only reason I don't think this is the case, however, is that I had to have my computer hard-wired to the internet because the wireless signal was so poor in the room where my computer sits (something was causing interference, a wall or something, between the modem and the computer even though they are only a room apart). So I'd think interference from other devices would be unlikely for the same reason.

The trackpad works flawlessly otherwise- no drops ever in connectivity (unless the battery runs out).

I've hesitated to update beyond Lion because I'm concerned my Mini couldn't handle the increased memory/processor requirements. This may be faulty thinking!

It could be BT interference, which can come from a variety of sources and drive you up a wall trying to track down.

OS X 10.8.5 is Mountain Lion. Mavericks is likely to run better on your Mini than Lion or Mountain Lion due to improvements in resource management, though it is unlikely to solve any Bluetooth problems. Write back for recommendations before you contemplate upgrading OS X, the most important of which is to back up your system first.

Try disconnecting the Magic Trackpad from Bluetooth, and connecting it again. You will need another device such as a mouse, wired or wireless doesn't matter. If that doesn't help, try un-pairing it and pairing it again.

Will do on all counts. Thanks for your input!
