My MacBook Pro says its charging but doesn't

I've had my MacBook Pro for 5 months. It says I only have 3% battery life even though it's been plugged in. The indicator light on the cord is not lite up, but it does say it's charging on the computer, but It doesn't charge. Any ideas?
