How do I disable all mobile data?

I am looking at gettin ga iP5S. Changing from another device entirely.

On my device I turn off WiFi, and then turn off mobile data, so I only receive calls or texts (for emergencies only at night).

How do you do this in iOS7 for iPhone (or iPad for that matter)?

Thanks to all for your ideas.

I get emails thru the day, Facebook messages, all the usual stuff we all get.

But at night, I need to be contacted by Text or Phone in an emergency, for my job. But this is NOT by email.

At night those who need me in drastic measures, do so only by text or ringing. So I need to disable ALL, except text and ringing.

The only reason I used the iPad as an option, is because I have an iPad now, not an iPhone, so could test any suggestions on iPad, tho without cellular I appreciate the problem.

If someone that uses an iPhone tries to text you with data off, you will not receive the text. You can read this about Do Not Disturb. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463 This will allow you to set your phone to not disturb you manually or during hours you set but still allow calls through from selected numbers. I'm not absolutely sure about texts from favorites, as I have never tested that one. But that should give you a little light reading on how DND works. A lot of people use it for situations similar to yours.

I didn't say that texting was mobile data, please read what I said. True SMS is a carrier function that uses the cellular technology. However, iMessage which is used between iOS devices is data.

If you want to turn off all cellular data and wifi, then go to Settings>Wifi>OFF. Then go to Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data>OFF.

I provided you with an information document about Do Not Disturb. That explains what you can and cannot do.

Mmmm. Maybe best I just use disable wifi and disable cellular data then - so only texts and calls come thru.

You see, calls sometimes happen, but mostly it's a text "mate the main site has gone down, are you available to fix asap?".

I rarely get a call like that. Usually a text. Tho have had calls too if a properly "OH ****" emergency. lol.
