I decided to reset my iPad 3 running IOS 8.3 to factory default setting as I had over 3000 photos synced from iPhoto would not erase; iTunes got stuck in "Waiting to sync" for hours. I've done resets before, mainly to free up "Other" taking up gigabytes of space, and for the first time ever this restrictions password came up, I know I have never set one. It was not in adoptions.plist as suggested by Tikara_NZ and 1234 didn't work either. I logged onto iCloud web and reset it from there although I was warned that some features may be restricted, I have yet to find out which ones, if any.

These are the perils of upgrading "old" hardware to the latest IOS. My personal leason leant is not to do it.

You posed this question months ago, but never late than never, right? I was in your position a few minutes ago, but after vigorous "research" I've found something a bit less radical than restoring your device back to factory settings. The first thing you would need to do is create a backup of your device if you haven't already. After doing so, you need to download a program called 'iBackupBot', it should be the first link on Google when you search the name. After setting up and opening the program, there should be a list in the top left hand corner. Double click on System Files > HomeDomain > Library > Preferences. On the right of the list you just clicked through, there should be a list of files. In the search bar, type com.apple.springboard.plist and double click on said file. A window may pop up asking you to buy the program, just click on 'Cancel' and the desired window should open. In the open window, select the find icon (the binoculars), search for <string>us</string> and under it, there should be a line of code that says </dict>. Click at the end of the code and press enter to open a new line where you are to type <key>SBParentalControlsPIN</key> then type <string>1234</string> on a new line below. When this is complete, save your code and close the window. Make sure that com.apple.springboard.plist is highlighted (if not, click on it once) then click the 'Restore' option. Your device will restart and the code you entered should work.

PS. Instead of '1234', you may enter any four digit code of your choice.

PSS. If your backup is password protected, you need to make a new backup without a password. The program will not allow you to restore with a password protected backup. (I learnt the hard way.)

PSSS. Need I mention that your device must be plugged into your computer?

Thank you so much. I have a memory problem, but could not imagine how I managed to set this stupid password. I would probably have reinstalled my iphone if I didnt see your post. For what appears no use, as it would still have prevented my access. Thank you so much, and screw this.

Thanks for the reply and help.

In the end I logged onto iCloud on the web, located my iPad and erased it from there. I then set it up as a new device (no iTunes restore), linked it to my iCloud and iTunes accounts where I got all my apps back. After that from my Macbook I synced music and photos from iTunes and iPhoto, created a new iTunes backup and it worked fine. From having only 1 GB free before the reset I ended up with 16 GB free after everything was restored back. Oh yes, since I set it up as a new device the restriction password is gone.

take a back up of your iphone which is not encrypted
using i backupbot try to find file "com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist" try name in search bar or by navigating through "Files/Library/Preferences/com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist"

from that file get restrictions hash and salt, rest of the task leave it to "http://ios7hash.derson.us/"

AliBababa's method worked for me. Don't forget to disable Find My iPhone before you restore the file to the device, otherwise you'll get an error.

I backed up using iTunes, but when I went through the McIntosh HD list - I get as far as application support, but there is no "App Store" to select, and as such I can't go any further.

I have tried 1234 and that doesn't work either. I am 100% certain I never set a restrictions code - not one that was different to my my normal passcode anyway.

THANK YOU!!!!  i was going nuts over this and with my kids' ipads.  there's only one passcode that i would have used, which of course didn't work.  i would have never figured this out if i hadn't seen your post.

I found also another solution which worked for me (not sure if it's listed on this Support Thread   )  The only thing is , you need 2 ipod : 1 with the problem (which has the forgotten  Restriction Passcode)  +  The other Device with Restriction passcode disabled.

1- Backup the IPad / Ipod which don't have the "Restriction Passcode" using Itune,

2- Then restore the above backup on the Ipod/Ipad which has the "Restriction passcode"

Once completed, you will have the exact same image on both and the restriction will be removed

PS: Both Devices should have the same level of OS ver.

    - Hope this helps.

    cheers

    AW

I have found my restriction code in "adoption.plist" , but I've never set it.

So angry now. I am waiting 60 mins to give it try. Also my e-mail is different from my Apple e-mail and I can't answer 2 security questions.

How can I sort this things ?

    @ Tikara_NZ,

I have this problem too, in response to your reply.... look in backup folder.... adoption.plist...., etc.

Can I access this using Windows 7 as I don't have a Mac or access to one? Cheers for any help!
