Compressor to Final Cut

Hi everyone,

So I was having trouble with laggy video playback so after clicking around through forums, I discovered that it was due to the fact the my voice-overs were recorded in 44.1khz as opposed to 48khz, which is what the rest of my audio is.

I was happy to discover the solution to my problem, but now have another to solve. I will record my future voice-overs in 48khz but I already have a good deal done in 44.1khz and need to convert them (hours of voice-over work done there).

Sooooooo.....

What is the best way to convert 44.1khz audio to 48khz?

I am currently sending the files to compressor, converting them to AIFF 48khz 16-bit, and then re-importing them into my timeline. This process is very time-consuming, especially due to the hundreds of files I must convert.

Is there an easier/more streamlined methd of converting 44.1khz files into 48khz files?

I hope someone knows the answer to this and maybe will solve others' questions about why their video is so laggy.

If your sequence settings are set for 48khz, then all you need to do is render the non-48khz audio as you have placed it in your sequence/timeline.

Make sure your render options are checked to include rendering audio (I usually turn all rendering options on):

Once you have rendered the audio, as far as the timeline is concerned, the audio is 48khz. If you have rendered the audio and still have "laggy" playback you have other issues.

Actually, I think you're wrong on the MtD. I seem to remember people reporting problems with 44.1 audio in a 48k sequence. Probably a good idea to replace it.

You could try reconnecting to the 48k material. Might work, might not.

If all your 44.1 material is on one track, you could duplicate your sequence, delete everything else. and media manage to 48k and then replace the original track with the media managed track. I think this will work.

OK, so rendering fixed it for awhile but now it's starting to lag again...it appears to be this audio problem as I converted another scene's voice-overs to 48khz and it appears to be playing fine, at least better than it was! I do not have Soundtrack so I am still looking for a good method to convert these audio files.

Thank you all for all your help, I really appreciate it 🙂

The official line is this:

1. FCS 3 (aka FCS 2009) was sold only as a suite of applications. The applications were not available individually. You either have them all or none.

2. If you purchase a used version of FCS and you did not receive all the original material (DVD install disks, license numbers, etc) you were scammed and do not have a valid copy.

fwiw - I really don't care how you came to be in posession of the software. If you paid good money for it, you were taken. If you pirated it, we don't want to hear about it.
