Problems starting my computer

1 beep = no RAM installed

2 beeps = incompatible RAM types

3 beeps = no good banks

4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)

5 beeps = processor is not usable

When posting in Apple Communties/Forums/Message Boards.......It would help us to know which Mac model you have, which OS & version you're using, how much RAM, etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.

Three beeps usually indicates that there is a RAM problem. If you installed new RAM replace with the original RAM. If you did not, take out the RAM chips, clean off the contacts and then reinstall it. Make certain that they are well seated.

If no success, try a SMC reset:

If still no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.

Then you have two choices:

Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them examine the MBP.

Or, you may select the correct MBP from those listed in this link, and watch the video on how to take out the RAM and install it. That will provide you with the necessary information to execute my instructions.
