Numbers issue
I am trying to open a Numbers spreadsheet but it is telling me I need a newer version. I have the latest version installed, any ideas?

Bother versions are installed. The previous version is located in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"
You can check which version you are running by selecting the menu item "Number > About Numbers"
Here are the two icons side-by-side:
Numbers Numbers
2.3 3.0
If you try to open a Numbers 3.0 file with Numbers2.3 you will see the message you are seeing.
I am using Numbers 3.0.1 as it came with the Macbook Pro I bought just over a month ago. I think the file could be corrupted.
NJ,
Right-click on the document and choose "Open With" then select Numbers 2.3

Did you figure this out? I'm running into the same issue & it's VITAL I get this document opened - I'm freakin out!
It doesn't given an option to choose which Numbers. I just got this mac maybe 2 weeks ago. I opened the file this morning just file & now it's giving me the same error. HELP!
Not sure if this will help but do you have 3.1 installed?
If you do and you still can't open the document, try restoring from an older version in Time Machine.
(If you saved it in iCloud, then in Finder hold down the option key and Go > Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers find the document and go back in time there.)

I have 3.1 installed but it won't open. I don't see any place to accept the liscence agreement? What do i do now.

What happens when you go to your main Applications folder (not the subfolder within it name iWork '09) and double-click the Numbers that you find there to launch it?

I am having the same issues that I cannot open numbers I have some very important documents that I really need. I have the 3.1 version. My concern is losing these documents. I have hours of work put into them. Anyone out there that can help it would be appreciated.
Everyone having the problem ... go to LaunchPad (F4 on Air) on your Mac to see if Numbers is downloading (updating) at the moment or is paused. That may be a contributing issue.
The App Store is not always in sync with what's actually happening on your computer (unfortunately).
I have the same issue. Now I've updated Numbers (on iMac) to new version (3.2) but problem remains 😟 - meaning: unable to open iCloud document previously created in Numbers on iMac.
No that's not it, everything checked ... Pages works fine ...

Ok. But Pages is a different app, with a different iCloud checkbox. So just because Pages "works fine" doesn't necessarily tell you all that much about whether Numbers iCloud sync is set up correctly.
Also try going to Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers and checking to see if your documents are in there.
If they aren't there, then you should try doublechecking your iCloud preferences to make sure Numbers is checked and also try signing out and signing back in to "kickstart" the Numbers sync.
If they are there, then try dragging them out onto the Desktop (you'll probably get a warning message), giving iCloud a chance to resync, and then dragging them back into the folder.
If you haven't already, restarting your computer can also clear up mysterious problems.

Yes, Pages works the same way just different checkbox.
What helped: opening a document in iCloud on iCloud with Numbers Beta, saving on local drive as a copy, opening in local Numbers and overwriting iCloud document ... now it's fine 🙂
