Audio popping, desynced audio/video in HD Rental

My HD rental is almost unwatchable from all the audio popping and desync'd audio and video.

I've lowered the audio quality in iTunes, closed all my other open programs, tried to update Quicktime, and a grabbag of other good suggestions from similar links and I can't seem to find a way to either: (1) make the rented movie watchable in iTunes, or (2) watchable in Quicktime (or any other media player).

I would be grateful to hear about any other workarounds that I havent thought of.
