Dell U2713H Monitor NOT WORKING with MacBook Pro in OS X but WORKING in Windows.

I recently purchased a Dell U2713H Monitor to use with my MacBook Pro.

I'm having a very weird issue and I don't see anyone else having this problem on the internet:

I am connecting the display using the Mini DisplayPort adapter from the computer to the DisplayPort on the display.

1. The computer does not discover that the display is connected to the computer. So I have to restart.

2. When I restart, the display is detected (when I go to the System Preferences > Displays it is listed). I can change the screen resolution and bit depth and arrangement within the control panel, but the display remains completely blank, only saying that there is no signal detected and that the monitor is going into power savings mode.

3. The weirder thing is that when I restart the computer and go into BootCamp, everything works perfectly. Display works, I can change settings and I get the maximum resolution as well.

What's going on? My first hunch is that there is a software glitch in OS X (I'm running Mavericks). But is there something I'm overlooking? I think I've checked everything (short from getting a replacement monitor).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey florsignol,

I understand that your monitor, while appearing in System Preferences, doesn't display anything; however, it works fine in BootCamp. These are the applicable troubleshooting steps I would go through to resolve the issue:

1. Reset the System

You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

2. Reset the resolution

Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:

  1. Start up in Safe Mode.
  2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  3. Choose Displaysfrom the View menu to open the preferences pane.
  4. Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
  5. Restart your computer.
