hi
since I got a remote 61sl midi controller keyboard, alot of the instruments in the exs24 have this pitch scoop up to the note if you play at full velocity, it dissapears if you play below a velocity of 124. I dont know why this is happening and I can't find the section in exs24 to alter it. any ideas would be appreciated
Actually, that's not true. One of the bass patches does this, which I find quite annoying. I suspect that you can't change that as they are samples themselves, but I might well be wrong... I haven't looked into it that much I must say.
Well, it depends on how you look at it... Personally I would rather have the sample and deal with the fancy tuff myself.
So you are saying that you can modify the pitchbends and that they are not samples?

Well, then post two mp3 files here, created by you with your own samples, that sound like an authentic slide, and another one that sounds like a tick on the string of a bass guitar...

Nowhere did I say that. These are real samples. Of course you can still modify them at your will.
By fancy stuff I was refering to the velocity layering of different samples, not the sliding. Still, I don't use this sample at all, so have never had a proper play with it, but rather these kinds of things done with a mod wheel. Anyway, I'm afraid I might have dragged this post slightly OT, as rereading the original post it suggests this problem only happened with his new controller.
Oh well, fun discussion anyway, best Fred
I think you are both right. I think this is probably the way the instrument is set up but that my previous controller ( an elderly Korgh M1 didnt play above 124 very often). I do think though that you should be able to control this in exs24 and I wou;d like to know where? Instrument Editor maybe?
The first one doesn't alter the EXS instrument in any way. Just adjust the Velocity parameter in the MIDI parameter box on the upper left side of the arrange page, when you have the EXS track selected. This will essentially "block" any note-on values above a certain number. So you could bang away, and never reach a value higher that 124, for instance.
The other does involve altering the EXS instrument. Simply open the EXS editor... make sure under the mini "Zone" menu, that you have "
move selected to the top" and "
select zone of last play key" checked. This way, when you play a key, it's zone and corresponding group will open and display at the top, so you'll always be able to see what's what.
When you hit the key hard, the sample with the slide will open it's zone box, and corresponding Group box (even though that zone is only for that one note, or surrounding notes). But looking at the Group box on the right, you'll see "Select Range", and two numbers. These 2 numbers reflect at which velocities the samples assigned to that group will sound. In the case of the sliding Fretless bass patch, the values in that Group are 124 - 127. You could simply set both values to "0".
Then play a note with a value of say, 123. When it's Group box opens, set the higher velocity number to 127, so that it will be the loudest sample heard.
I'd suggest saving under a different name, leaving the original intact.
Oh, and a third option... most keyboard controllers offer different velocity curves, adjusting for different players technique. Perhaps just setting a different curve from your controller would make that upper value of velocities harder to trigger so easily.
