logitech G5 gaming mouse replacement

i think the optical on my G5 gaming mouse is failing and i need to replace it.

i work in 3D software and have been researching on the net and this mouse gets rave reviews. however, i think i can only buy used mice and "new-used" ones seem very pricey.

i am wondering if there is anyone out in the mac world that has a suggestion on a replacement. i am also curious as to whether/why the logitech does not seem to provide full functionality on the mac and whether there is a way to get a similar mouse with full mac functionality.

i am also wondering if i should get a laser mouse instead of a optical mouse.
