Replacing hard drive. Need quick info

Bout to replace the hard drive on my imac. When I tried switching from snow leopard to mountain lion it took a dump on me. My question is once the hard drive is replaced, how will I start my computer? Will it still have snow leopard or can i access the mountain lion and download it again? likw Will I somehow be able to access my mountain lion purchase, I got it from the App Store? i don't have a snow leopard cd. Hopefully you understand what I'm saying. Thankyou in advance

You will need the original DVD to reinstall Snow Leopard, then you must update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and (from the App Store) upgrade to Mavericks (10.9.1)

So there is no way to just start it with my purchase? So pretty much I needa spend another $20 to get my old operating system just to upgrade to what I bought. Dang.

If your Mac came with Snow Leopard you can not skip straight to Mavericks, or anything else. You must reinstall Snow Leopard and start over.

A backup would have made this a simple process.

It's the same, except that ML is $20 and Mavericks is free.

Mavericks is free for lion and up I believe, not for snow leopard. Also the reviews I have read weren't the best. I will prob stick with mountain lion

Also quick question. Its an emc 2308. Will this work as a replacement hard drive?

What is an emc 2308?

The drive you linked to will not work in an iMac.

You need a Sata interface drive, Sata 2 or Sata 3

The iMac I have. iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2308. I heard you must by the same manufacturer hard drive. Is seagate the correct manufacturer to replace it with?
