My 2010 Macbook Pro 13 inch says wifi- no hardware installed. I've already replaced the airport card and that didn't seem to fix it, other people have said it might be the wifi cable. i'm not sure though. I've tried resetting the smc and nvram/pram, not luck.

I've got the same issue, have a cable on the way to see if that does it but there are a ton of people having Airport issues. I can tell you this is a cheap fix that works.

found out the metal peice that holds the cable in place is broke on the side, looks like a usb wifi adapter will have to work as a new logic board is out of the question.
I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.2 and had the same problem: the wifi icon displayed an X and the message wifi no hardware installed.
I fixed this by going to Energy Saver in System Preferences, choosing the Power Adapter tab and de-selecting the Wake for network access option. I re-started my mac and the problem was solved. I forgot where I saw this fix but it was simply.
This also cleared up another problem with my mac not recognizing the Airport Express on my wireless network.
