I don't have a File/Create New Version menu option. Why not? I need to convert WMA to AAC for iTunes, and the WMA files are in several different directories. Hoping to handle the conversion en masse.

If they are already in iTunes, they are not WMA.
To add WMA files to iTUnes, FIle > Add to iTunes library and select the top folder with your music.
iTunes will convert WMA (on Windows and if it they are not DRM protected) as it imports them.
I guess that's my basic problem. I don't have a File menu. Where should it be? Tried to submit a pic here but it keeps saying "An error occurred while tring to submit your post. Please try again." That's helpful.

Aha. So now I see File/Create New Version, but the submenus (like "Create AAC version") are greyed out. I can't click them.

You must first to select song(s) you want to convert.
The songs I want to convert are currently in WMA format on my hard drive. I can't open them into iTunes until they're converted to AAC. But you're saying I can't convert them to AAC until they're opened in iTunes?
How can I convert the WMA files SO they can be brought into iTunes? Surely, there's an import process, standard in iTunes, that provides for this.

As I previously suggested, File > Add folder/file to library. iTunes for Windows will convert as it imports and you will have an AAC file in iTunes.
Ah, yes, thank you. It worked that time. My problem was that I couldn't find the File menu before.
