Your post came in later than mine, sorry. Question solved.

Now about the Ram, no urgency there, but you have to use the exact specs of Ram and of a very good Brand: because the MBP is very choosy; Crucial or OWC. On their sites you can find the exactly correct Ram when you give the modelnumber and so on of your mac (see the etrecheck list).

I would go for the 2x4GB and in Mavericks you have plenty in your case.

On the iFixit site you find a good video on how to do it, easy, you need a special screwdriver for the tiny little screws of the back panel (if you want to do it yourself). Be sure that you seat the strips exactly and press them firmly in place.

About one week ago, my computer started doing something unusual: When using an application, whether it be a game or iTunes, or even Chrome for that matter, the computer freezes for about 5-15 seconds where I cannot do anything. I upgraded the RAM about a month ago and I thought it might be related to a League of Legends update, but I do not think that is it anymore. Here are my Etrecheck results (Javascript has been updated since running the Etrecheck).

I should also mention that I DO have a backup from Time Machine and I'm not sure why it says that I do not..

More than enough Ram, and enough diskspace.

There is one thing though that has to be uninstalled before anything else:

Akamai:

When there is an application Akamai in the Applications folder, you can use Terminal (in Utilities): start Terminal,

and copy/paste following command in it:

/Applications/Akamai/admintool uninstall -force

and after that Quit Terminal

When this works, OK, when not open Akamai in SystemPreferences and see whether there is an uninstaller in it, use it.

Now check the plist of Akamai:

In Finder go to yourname->Library->LaunchAgents folder and delete the com.akamai....plist file

if not there, check in MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchAgents folder.

It may be gone already by the foregoing uninstall.

Empty Trash.

Restart.

this may solve your problem already.

Apr 1, 2014 8:20 AM in response to Lexiepex

well that didn't quite solve the issue. I experienced the issue just loading up a picture on twitter. I've been getting a lot more of the "loading" color wheel lately. (It just happened typing this sentence)

Do you think I should back up to last week when I noticed the issue?

Akamai gone, good. TM backup, no problems reported.

You have a lot of uncommon soaftware installed, we look at that a little later.

The issue may also be someting with the startup disk: please restart while holding the CMD+R keys (you must have a good internet connection):

You start up in the Recovery mode, choose the DiskUtility and on the startup disk Hitachi do the "verify disk". If it ends with 'OK' do it on the MacintoshHD also. When you encounter issues then do the 'repair disk'; in that case start making backups, backups, backups... (after starting normally ofcourse).

Reports back what the results are.

Lex

Apr 1, 2014 9:59 AM in response to remairwaldo

OK, prepare for replacement of the disk. You can do it yourself, you have to have a special screwdriver and patience and discipline. Buy a good brand disk, and an USB enclosure, put it in there, partition and format/erase it with diskutility GUID partition table, Mac OS EXtended (journaled) format. Then clone the existing disk, with CarbonCopyCloner, to it, at best with the Recovey partition. Then start while holding the Alt key and choose the new disk so that you see it works. Shut down. exchange the disks, (very careful with the cables and connectors), and startup again. See the whole process on Ifixit.

Apr 1, 2014 11:05 AM in response to remairwaldo

DiskUtility is one of the best tools to analyse the disk, it reads the smart status and other things, and on the basis of that (even it is able to repair) you can conclude that the disk is dying. You can also wait till s.m.a.r.t says disk is dead. But now you can prepare.

A disk of 500GB is around 50$. Apple needs about a half hour, but afaik they do not do the clone "procedure". So I guess it is close to 130$.

You get it back with OS, and then you can restore from TM.

But as I said before, some issues may also be from all that other "weird" software. But anyway I would prepare for a disk replacement in any case.

Apr 2, 2014 2:08 AM in response to remairwaldo

Candybar, Ventrilo, Line6, Jaksta, toc...

If you want, we go on after the "disk intemezzo", with necessary cleaning.

before you do anything else:

MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchAgents delete com.hp.help.tocgenerator.plist

OK, now a number of questions:

--Do you use software downloaded from Softonic, DownloadCNET.com, and other 'bulk'sites?

--Do you still use Virtualbox?

--do you use any 'cracked' software, or sofware with a key from a keygenerator (e.g. Corekeygen)?

-- can you make a screenshot of the Applications folder in list format, and the Utilities folder?
