MacBook Air was in hibernate and now will not turn on. Do I try to reset? How can I perform a reboot?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

How do I reset a 1 year old macair that doesn't restart? When plugged in,

Hold the power button for 5 seconds to shut off.

Power on and hold the Shift key down when you hear the startup tone. This should perform a safe boot.

Then goto System Preferences > Startup Disk > select your MacIntosh HD > click restart.
