Register SIM cards - how to receive OTP Security Codes?

I am currently in India and want to use a local SIM card. To register this SIM card, the provider sends a so-called OTP code. Since iPad Air Cellular does only allow imessage, I cannot receive the OTP. Same problem with booking train and bus tickets. Has anyone found a solution/an app to this?
