I have a 20gb, generation 1 ipod that I need to access itunes thru a new HP desktop with NO firewire port. I believe the gen 1 does not work with a USB? What would I need to do to connect to the computer?

You can probably find a Firewire 400 to USB converter on the internet somewhere. If it's a desktop, you can even use a PCI card.

Plug the iPod into that, and the USB into the computer.

I read these type of adapters are unreliable. Have you other info that these do work with iPods?
How are people connecting their old iPods with their new computers?
Are they adding a Firewire port at the back of their computers?
If so, any specific one?
