iPhoto does not respond

iphoto hangs up.

one photo might show up, but soon iphoto does not respond.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), iPhoto update 9.5.1 instal 12/14/13

Chances are your iPhoto library needs a little attention. Try the troubleshooting steps Apple provides in iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library found at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638

Try the following:

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
