I gather they are stored on my Mac and are transferred to my iPads and iPhone via iCloud. If I order a book on my iPad, is it sotredon my Mac or on the iPad? Can I transfer the books to a thumb drive so they dont take up space on my Mac?
That depends on your settings. If you buy it on your iPad then it won't download to your Mac unless you have Download New Purchases check in the iBook preferences.
I would not reccomend moving them. Your purchases will be available for redownload whenever you want so you can just delete them from iBooks. The book will stilll be listed in the Purchased category in iBooks but with a cloud on the top right corner.
I understand what you are saying and that's great, however I am confused in that iCloud only offers a certain amount of storage space unless I were to purchase more. Therefore does iBooks impact the amount of space I have or is it held on Apple's space?
I gather books are temporarily put on my hard drive so I can read them.
iTunes purchases do not count against iCloud storage.
