Setting up a Ricoh Aficio MP C5000

I downloaded the driver for this printer which says Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 PS, entered the printer address in the "IP" section, tried each of the three protocols (IPP, LPD and HP Jetdirect) and, despite there being a green circle next to the printer, I haven't been able to get anything to print. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I can think of two possible causes.

1. Your C3000 does not support the Postscript printer langauge. This will stop it from printing when using a PS driver as you have mentioned. Often you can check what printer language a machine supports by connecting to its internal web page, which is done by entering the printers IP address into a web browser. Via one of the pages there will be a list of what printer languages it supports. Ricoh has its own proprietary language which is just for Windows. There is also PCL5 and PCL6 (aka PCL XL) and Postscript.

2. The Ricoh has some form of job accounting enabled, which requires you to enter a PIN code to copy/print. If this is so, and the printer has the Postscript kit installed, then the PS driver you installed should have a menu where you can enter your PIN code.

Thanks for your great thoughts on this issue, I appreciate it. As to your two points:

(1) I took a look at the printer languages and get the following: Automatic Language Switching; Customized PJL; RPCS; PCL 5c Emulation and PCL XL Emulation.

(2) The Ricoh does have job accounting enabled and the options under "Job Log" are "User ID" and "User Code" under "Normal Print." Under "Locked Print" and some of the other options, there are additional fields for "File Name" and "Password." I have entered the code that I can use to pring under "User ID" and "User Code" and haven't been able to get it to print.

Thanks again for any help.

So this shows you that the printer does not have the Postscript option. So you won't be able to use the PS driver you downloaded.

There is a Generic PCL driver included with 10.9. It only prints in B&W and by default is set to 300dpi resolution. However, it would be a good test to create a new printer to the Ricoh using this Generic driver. If it prints, then you will know that the issue was due to the wrong printer language rather than it being due to the User ID/Code facility in the Ricoh. But if this Generic PCL also fails to print, then it would suggest that your issue is also related to this facility being enabled.
