There's a restriction on most email services, it varies from provider to provider.

My PC (on Windowa Vista) is what I run my router from and I have no e-mail size problems. My wifes
iphone also runs from this same router as does my Windows based Lap Top. It only the wifes new i-pad
that does not accept larger e-mails.

The router has nothing to do with it, it's the service provider for your email account that applies the restriction and most of them do it.
