my hard drive took a dump and id like to replace it with whats currently in it. in disk utilities it reads..... 500GB Hitachi HDT7210505LA360... what hard drive is that and can someone direct me to where i can purchase it? thankyou

Post back with exactly which iMac you have then we can begin to assist.

I am not sure you will be able to find precisely the same model hard drive. Hitachi made the drive in 2009. The odds arfe that drive is no longer available. In fact, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies itself has changed - it is now part of Western Digital.
A better strategy might be to find out what drive is installed in the current iMacs, and get that.
If the price is right, I'd go for it.
