Restore Failure - Could not open connection to helper tool

I created a disk image on an external firewire drive using disk utility.

The external drive is bootable and I run the Disk Utility software from the external drive.

When I try to restore from the image selecting the source and target I get the following error after clicking the "Restore" button:

" Restore Failure

Could not open connection to helper tool."

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

I've experienced the same problem. What I know is that we built a system image using Disk Utility on a MacPro and we experience this error when attempting to restore the image on another MacPro using Disk Utility.

I've successfully built system images of MacBook Pros and restored them without any problems. However, I believe I may have built the image using Carbon Copy Cloner. This may warrant some more experimentation using the different utilities.

O.K. Using Disk Utility I rebuilt the image and was able to restore the image to another Mac Pro. Here's what I did differently.
1. I made sure that I ran "repair permissions" prior to building the image.
2. I created the image as "Read Only" INSTEAD of "Compressed".

Of course, I also ran "Scan image for restore" on that image.

Everything worked fine.
