Ever since updating to Mavericks our e-mail comes in at irregular times, sometimes only after shutting down for day and starting in the AM. I have set it for every 5 minutes, every 30minutes and every 15 minutes. It makes no difference. Sometimes it retrieves on schedule just fine.

Does it get Mail if under the Mailbox menu item... Get all new Mail work?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the exact message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Yes, Mail will retrieve whenever I ask it too but not when the timer is set! Sometimes it may go hours without retrieving.
Hmmm, not on 10.9 at the moment to test, but any change after this?
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
