Jan 9, 2014 6:55 AM in response to Nikisimby varjak paw,You'll need to clear enough space so that you can install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (presuming your Mac is an Intel-CPU model), necessary to run iTunes 11 to sync your new iPad, or you'll need to use another computer to sync, one that can run iTunes 11.

Jan 9, 2014 7:26 AM in response to Nikisimby Ralph9430,Cannot sync to a Mac running Leopard?
That is correct. The earliest version of Mac OS X that an iPad air can sync with is Mac OS X 10.6.8 (aka Snow Leopard). Snow Leopard requires a Mac with an intel processor. If your iMac has an intel processor I suggest at least updating to Snow Leopard. If you do not have enough hard disk space for the update consider buying an external hard drive and moving your content to that drive so as to free up enough space on your iMac for the update.

Jan 9, 2014 7:35 AM in response to varjak pawby Nikisim,This means I have to delete a lot of my current data in order to accommodate the Snow Leopard.
Perhaps another option - if it works?
Can I create my current iTunes acct in my sister's computer and sync it.
I was told that if I sync my current iPad 2 to another computer,it will wipe out all my data. Is this true?

Jan 9, 2014 7:48 AM in response to Nikisimby JimHdk,Why not just create a current iCloud backup of your iPad 2 and use this backup to initialize your iPad Air during Setup?

That is true. There are, however, ways to transfer sync to another computer without losing your data. Check out this user tip from TuringTest:

and this page on "How-to Geek":

That would work for most data and settings, and any content downloaded from the iTunes Store may be able to be re-downloaded. If Nikisim has content on the iPad 2 that wasn't purchased from the iTunes Store, though, iCloud won't transfer any of that content.

Jan 9, 2014 8:22 AM in response to varjak pawby JimHdk,Since he states that he "just bought" his iPad Air this may be good enough.

Jan 9, 2014 8:31 AM in response to JimHdkby varjak paw,Could be, but since he/she has an iPad 2 and has apparently been syncing to a computer, there may well be content not from the iTunes Store involved, so I wanted to make sure the limitations were clear.
Cheers.

Jan 9, 2014 9:42 AM in response to JimHdkby Nikisim,Guys, Thank you very much for all your advice.
I'll have to decide whether I'll use iCloud, clear space on my iMac or
just start my IPad Air fresh and forget about what data I have on iPad 2.
After all, I can still use my current iPad 2 with its current data on it.
BTW what are the iCloud charges if it exceeds 5GB? Thanks

Note that content from the iTunes Store does not count against the free 5GB.
