Backup drive keeps disappearing

My LaCie backup drive keeps disappearing from my iMac w/Mavericks 10.9.1.

My iPad 4 keeps shutting down when reconnecting to iMac.

I have heard this is a USB/Thunderbolt Mavericks issue.

Can anyone confirm and provide a fix?
