Alarm Music resets to default after any sync changes to music

So I have an alarm set on my iPhone for the morning and choose "This Song" by an artist.

If I make any changes to an iTunes playlist and re-sync the phone, the alarm gets reset to the default alarm (boring!)

This is true even if zero changes are made to the "This Song" that was previously chosen. It wasn't touched or moved to a different playlist or anything.
