Q: I have downloaded latest software to my Apple TV, but I am unable to get the airplay icon to display on either my iPhone5 or iPad2. Both have iOS7 installed. The Apple TV connects to the wifi successfully. Any ideas please?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.

Can we assume you are bringing up the "Control Center" and the Airplay icon is not there?

Do you have the "AirDrop" icon?

Hi, Thanks for your time. You are correct. Dragging up the command centre panel only reveals the standard icons on the ipad2 plus the airdrop logo on the iphone5. Airplay icon not there on both. My sons new ipad air also only shows the airdrop icon and not the airplay icon. I have tried all resets and updates on iPhone, iPads, Apple TV and wifi router. Home internet is good, wifi good, Apple TV receiving wifi well (can watch youtube etc) but darned if I can get the airplay icon to show itself and be able to use mirroring etc. Thanks in anticipation...

What brand of Modem/Router do you have?

    Netgear?

Check to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your Modem/Router.

Several types of modem/routers need to have a feature turned on so that AirPlay will show up and work properly.

Let us know what brand you have.

Hi Joseph, my router is a BT Home Hub 3.0.  I ought to add that I have had Air Play working in the past (and showing the icon) but not since upgrading both phone and ipad to ios7. Something, somewhere is not talking as it should do. Thanks

To Winston Churchill and Joseph. Success. At the third time of resetting everything possible this evening the pesky little icon has come out of hiding. The final actions were disconnecting the router for 30 seconds and depressining the 'wireless WPS' button on the router. Not sure what action was the cure, but many thanks for your help and time from both sides of the pond (center perhaps gives one clue and Winston the other!). Regards, Moley

    Yes, I agree.

Some non Apple routers need a firmware upgrade which fixes the problem.

Some other non apple routers need to have a setting changed in the router so Airplay will work with the new iOS.

Check with BT Home Hub and see if there are any fixes.

Good Luck and let us know what you find so it might help others.

    EDIT:

Looks like we posted at the same time.

    Glad you got it working.
