Why won't it move emails to trash?

I'm trying to delete emails in iOS7 on my iPad, but keep getting message that it cannot move to trash, so they stay in my inbox.

Why?

There are a few things that you could try to fix it :

First try closing the Mail app via the multitasking bar and see if you can delete emails after you re-open the app :

iOS 7 : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the Mail app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.

iOS 6 and below : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mai 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

If the above doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

A third thing to try is to go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

Ahh yes I can really see it now. Took me a while to work it out. I logged into my Webmail and could see "Deleted Messages", tho as a separated folder away from the rest.

But when I look in the screen you guided me to, I see it there. So that's selected and the moment I delete a bunch of emails, I see them in that folder on webmail, which I assume deletes at some point auto.

So that's really good.

I'm getting an iPhone very soon, so I will ensure all non-Hotmail emails are using IMAP so I can delete the crap from the server if I am away.

Many thanks.
