How do I get Calendar to check Contacts (vs. global address book) when inviting others?

When I type in a name in the "Add Invitees" field of an event in Calendar (OS X Mountain Lion), Calendar searches the global address book on my company's Exchange server, not the Contacts on my MacBook Pro. Because I've changed many names in Contacts to nicknames (Tom instead of Thomas), Calendar doesn't find the person I want to invite.

Is there a way to tell Calendar to check Contacts first?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6)

Hi there KSDenison!

I have an article that may help you achieve that goal:

Calendar (Mavericks): Invite people using the Address panel

You can also use this article as a guide for adding people from contacts:

Add invitees to Contacts

Contacts that appear as you type in a Calendar event’s invitees field come from Contacts (the OS X app). You can add invitees to Contacts from Calendar.

  1. Double-click an event.
  2. Click the arrow next to a person in the Invitees list, then choose Add to Contacts.

To add contacts in Contacts, see:

Thank you Braden. Beyond the suggestion you sent, is there a way to have Calendar check Contacts first when typing into the Add Invitees box? That would be more convenient than opening the Address Panel.

What happens now is that when I type in the Add Invitees box Calendar is checking the online global address book, not my locally stored Contacts. Wondering if I've made an error in how something is set up.
