My phone goes dead when I try to use it outside in cold weather,I need my phone to work when I'm outside.
Never had this problem before with other phones! Any ideas what to do?

But they aren't normal operating conditions for the device. And perhaps your iPhone 4 happened to have a greater tolerance than the normal iPhone 4.
Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures

If by "cold" you mean "outside of the specified operating temperature range", then either find a phone that meets your needs or keep it in a pocket where it will be warm and use a bluetooth headset to avoid having the phone get down to a dangerously low temperature.
Allowing the phone to get extremely cold can also cause moisture to condense inside the housing of the phone itself when it is exposed to warm temperatures again, and if the change is extreme, the glass can shatter due to extremes changes in temperature.
Today was in my pocket and took out to use,started to call someone and then it died!-9 Celsius
Bring home turn back on full battery. What if someone is in emergency and needs phone to call in cold weather.
If this is a frequent need buy a standard phone (NOT a smartphone) that is ruggedized or get one of the Lifeproof, Otterbox or similar cases that envelop the case. The glass on smartphones is sensitive to and transmits the cold to the phone causing it to cease operating.

Or, maybe check the operating specifications of a device prior to purchase, if you are going to be using the device in abnormal conditions?
How cold? If the phone is cooled down below the freezing level, it definatly affects the battery.
One option could be to put the phone in a pocket close to your body, so you can keep it warm.
Every electronic device has an operating temperature range. I know of no phone on the market that will reliably work in -9 degrees Celsius. Good luck.
Any military specification cell phone goes below that termperature. None of them that meet the specification are smartphones.

Check all the other smartphones available and you will see pretty much identical operating specifications.
These are normal conditions for Ontario
So sounds like will have to live with it.
My iPhone 4 never had these problems.
And Apple calls it a upgrade?
