But no im just tryimg to hook up to xbox live to update some stuff on my friends xbox 360 and it recognizes my iPhone and the network connect but when it gets to the Internet it fails.

Your subject line said (emphasis mind) "Stupid amateur question for Apple" which implied that you were expect an Apple employee to answer.

I still don't understand what you're trying to do. Again, are you trying to use your iPhone to connect the Xbox to the Internet? You say no, but then you imply that is exactly what you are trying to do. If not, then what, exactly, is it that you are attempting to do?

My suspicion is that the WPA2 encryption may be tripping things up, but I'm not sure. I would suggest you ask on an Xbox-related site. You'll be more likely to get help using tethering through a cellphone to connect your Xbox in a forum dedicated to that product.
