Q: Why should anyone upgrade to Mavericks when 30% of the user feedback on the download site describes horrific results and rates Mavericks 1 out of 5???

I would really like to upgrade my MBP from 10.6 to Mavericks and was just about to download when I reveiwed the recent user feedback on the download site.

Mavericks was released on Oct 22 2013. I am wrting this on Jan 9 2014 and of the 735 reviews for the current version on the download site 219 or 30% describe horric results and rate this OS at 1 out of 5.

So I would like to hear from Apple - Why should anyone upgrade to Mavericks when there's a 30% chance of disaster !!!

I would have asked this question on the download site but users must first install before being allowed to post a review !!!

Have Apple provided any expalantion as to why so many users are having problems upgrading? or even provided a checklist of precautions to minimize the chance of such problems?

I am hoping this community can provide some useful information even if Apple is silent on this matter.

Optimistically,

I too have pondered over the same question myself but simply for now anyways choose not to upgrade to Mavericks knowing that everything I have installed on all my macs is compatible and works fine as is

Where as on the other hand if I were to upgrade now would be most likely to find issues inevitably eventuating which has happened previously at a cost having to also upgrade third party software as well as hardware in order to bring back to sync with in the music production side of things anyway being more the wiser this time around,

As others have previously mentioned here this is most likely the cause of most if not all such issues ,

But in saying so though even since such time has well and truly passed think most if not all peoples perception of apple when it now comes to upgrades in OS  tend to have perceptions or visions of a grim reminder of what can, does and has happened when such thoughts are revisited from there previous upgrade as an example from iOS 5 to iOS 6 in conjunction to what happened and still continues to be apparent with in there so called maps upgrade which were and still continues to be a total flop in comparison to google maps which ended up saving the day also back then for apple in the end anyways especially in the iPhone department where most if not all were crying out blue murder before google came up with a compatible app of there own to work with in iOS 6,

Which now all seems to be swept under the rug and hopefully diverted on apples behalf which personally is something I feel a lot of people and most likely previous apple consumers won't be so quick to forget

Which seems now written on the wall about apple never being able to live down yet alone come back or recover from completely

As beforehand when the world seemed to potentially then be there oyster.

As well as there devices being then value for your buck rock solid all in one units instead of the current divided sold separately and user non upgradable hardware units of today in comparison for the same price,

But that said am still satisfied with the performance of my system,

And personally think that when it comes to upgrading any OS to not be in such a rush to do so and to allow I would think a good six months at least to allow the OS its self to iron out any of its own bugs and creases for starters and also especially if you have third party devices or software to get up to speed or if not seriously consider such consequences or wether or not one should at all even until the next OS release,

    Ultimately Though

What it really comes down to overall is just plain common sense

If its not broken don't fix it

Try posting your own thread and include an Etrecheck report. You have given given up little or nothing to go on.

etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions

You can't extrapolate the 516 happy users of the 735 reported in the post into millions of users without also extrapolating the 219 who had horrible results. You say "...Google how many millions have downloaded Mavericks. Do you think that 219 people represent them?" Well, no, they don't. 219 times whatever number you used to take 516 to "millions" represent them. It's called statistics and, unless you are a politician, it's pretty important to understand how it works.

Sorry, I never finished my post and hit "reply." I meant to say that the 735 have to be a statistically significant group, which is very difficult to create. Most likely, far more dissatisfied persons post than satisfied, skewing the selection. You might just read reviews or talk to people in your own industry. This is a pretty old thread, so I'm hoping no one sees my gaffe.

This is a very old thread that people got bored of and walked away from. The next OSX is due out shortly so wait till then to troll.

    Cheers and Bye
