Macbook Pro Retina screen freeze after usb/hdmi unplug

I'm running Mavericks on my 2012 15" Macbook Pro Retina Display

It seems that every time I disconnect my powered usb 3.0 hub (Anker 9-port) from the laptop's left side usb 3.0 port it freezes the screen.

In this occurrence i can move the cursor, but cannot click anything as everything on the screen freezes and remains unresponsive. Even when I close the computer, the apple light stays illuminated, and upon opening is still completely frozen in the same position. I've had to hard-reboot my mac because of this issue more times than I can count.

This also happens situationally when I unplug my device from an external hdmi display.

Please help.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), reset my pram/nvram, smc still brkn
