I have been receiving emails from unknown source "Notice of Appearance" with variations. I have not opened them. I tried to create rules to delete them (or place in trash) which so far have been unsuccessful. Any ideas on how to get rid of this nuisance without risking opening the virus?

"Phishing" emails such as you describe are extremely common. Just delete them. Mark them as junk mail and Mail.app will learn to place them in your junk mail folder.

For more information read:

If your email account becomes clogged with too much junk mail, often the only alternative is to abandon that email account and create a new one. Safeguard your email address as you would with any other personal information. Don't post your email address in a public forum.
