Safari stopped working in Tiger

I just reformatted my hard drive after a power outage caused some conflicts. Cloned the backup of Jaguar and then loaded Tiger (after all the repair file permissions. Everything workd just fine except Safari. It said pages were forbidden or unreachable. All the bookmarks transfered, but I have double click them to get to the page, if it loads at all. Any ideas?

Looks like Murphy's working overtime in there, darn him!

Have your network settings reverted back to the proxy being enabled? Is Safari again locked? Try the new user account setup/login and thorough cache cleaning (OnyX or equivalent).

Your 10.3.9 backup volume works fine, right? You might test it to insure it's okay, then either download and install the OS X 10.4.7 update (which may resolve things), or zero the Tiger drive and do a fresh install of Tiger and use the setup assistant to move your data over from OS X 10.3.9. You may have had an original cloning issue or a software update issue that could be tough to find and fix...

Amazing that is what happened the proxie was checked again. In 10.3.9 no problem (but I will check if the proxie is checked) and I did zero out the Tiger drive and update to 10.4.7. You may be correct about the cloning issue. I am going to get a bigger drive and start all over. It may take a while but I will keep you posted as to the results. I will also keep an eye on the posts to see if someone else has the same problem.

Hello mactothefuture, & Bee,

I removed TA software in January as well .v TA 2005. I have the directive they emailed, printed out. There may be an uninstaller in the folder in TA Folder in Applications, but it did not seem to work not surprising .

A) Go to activity Monitor and find it in Active or Hierarchal process and Quit it.

1) Drag Earthlink Total Access Mac OSX folder located in Applications folder to the Trash.

2 ) From HD click on Users then the Shared folder, drag the TotalAccess to the trash.

3) Now HD/Library/Application Support/Totalaccess drag that to the trash.

4) HD/Library/ Preference folder/ find the *TotalAccess.prefpane move that to the trash
*this is not the preferences folder located in the the home~Library, but rather the HD Library if you do not have TA item do not worry, they were confused with windows, it will be probably be called .plist even in this folder

5) Go to home/~Library/ preferences folder and locate the TA or earthlink.plist file trash it.

6) Go to home/~Library/ Cache folder see if there is an Elink or TA folder and drag that to the trash.

Use Onyx ( if you have it) to Force trash it if you have to. The software would constantly unlock the secure items and check my Web proxy. It is truly a pain.

p.s. Make sure it is not in your Login items -> System Pref./Accounts/Login items (Start up items in 10.3.9) if it is use the - to remove it.

Good Luck-!!

Eme, Thanks finally I am back to Safari. One thing though the uninstaller did work and I secure emptied the trash and did a restart to be sure. TA was the main problem.

Thanks to you too Gary for keeping up with me. I read these post almost everyday to see what is new and where the problems are and it does make a difference.
Thanks to all that contribute to help others keep em flying!!

Macofthefuture,

Oh good yet more misinformation, Elink had said to do it this way because it had proved not to work, it was the way I did nevertheless very glad it did work for you. Yes, TA is a problem I am also glad to be rid of that annoying software.Cheers & happy browsing.

Regards to all here.
