Jan 10, 2014 6:40 PM in response to Posthumousby OmegaBlock,Apologies.
To clarify...looking for a way to import MXF efficiently into the new FCPX 10.1
Had the canon plugin for 10.9 ... But now nothing offered.
Now having to go through a third party program to convert.
Then importing the converted footage to FCPX 10.1.
Takes 4 times longer, over the previous plugin.

Jan 11, 2014 7:33 AM in response to Russ Hby OmegaBlock,Thanks Russ,
My OS is Maverick.
When I go to the Canon site to download the plugin, it recognizes my OS and is not supported. Doesn't offer me the ability to download the software. Should also clarify, these are new machines...not upgraded. I'm still running 10.9 on an older machine (with plugin) to conclude projects, before updating old events/projects.
Plugin worked perfectly on 10.9.
Ideas on a work around?

Jan 11, 2014 7:50 AM in response to OmegaBlockby Tom Wolsky,What Russ is saying is that you don't need a plugin for most MXF files. Did you try importing? What happens? What camera is this?

Jan 11, 2014 8:30 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby OmegaBlock,Hi Tom
Russ' screen shot shows he uses the plugin.
It is required, as the format is not native.
On the new machines...even clicking beyond the container, as shown in Russ' screen shot...I'm not able to select any part of a file. Nothing to import.
I think my option will be, to try and download the plugin under the guise of a lower operating system.
Thanks!

Jan 12, 2014 11:23 AM in response to OmegaBlockby OmegaBlock,Looks like I have found the work around!
Now have the plugin installed and we are able to import on both machines.
However...now the next issue!
On the Imac, I am getting the 'disk not ejected properly' error ... 10 seconds after I mount the CF card in my card reader. Won't remain connected.
I transferred the files to another external drive, and then mounted that external drive to the Imac...which works fire.
Card reader w/ CF card works on all of the other machines, so it can't be the issue?
Thanks for all the replies, gang!

Jan 29, 2014 8:40 AM in response to OmegaBlockby TeoTheHoly,I think that there's something political behind... Apple wants to impose its codecs and wrappers.
In the post-production facility where I work the 95% of the material comes wrapped in .mxf (that's stated as professional standard by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). Usually it seems that final cut has the codec but it doesn't want to ingest the video if contained in mxf. For every video that enters from the door I have to find the proper plugin (that many times doesn't exist or is really expensive) or get mad finding a way to rewrap and wasting time...
The solution seems to be paying hundreds of $ to hamburg pro media... But in the end, I just use avid or premiere, and I'm sad because I'd like to use final cut.
VLC and Premiere... They open everything without beating an eye lid, if final cut doesn't is only for political reasons, I suppose...

Dec 23, 2014 6:40 PM in response to OmegaBlockby AliceShen, well, you can try to update your FCPX to 10.1.4 , this version can support MXF natively.
