Dual G4 making ticking noise then freezing?

Dual G4 making ticking noise then freezing?

When I am on my mac for a while it will periodcally making a ticking sound coupled with like 2 or 3 beeps and everything freezes. Then like 15 seconds later it comes back to normal. What is going on?

Dual 1Ghz G4, Mac OS X (10.3.9), 2Gb ram

I had this same exact problem. Mine ended up being a faulty boot drive that eventually crashed and I lost everything and had to replace it.

Hello! Clicks are a bad sign indicating either severe disk directory problems or a failing drive. Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive in diskutility to see if it's showing verified or failing. Tom

Well thanks for the replies. I tried to zero the drive and thats when it happened the drive died. I left the machine alone for about an hour and nothing. came back and nothing. tried again and same. Bought a new 300Gb drive for 75.00
