I updated my MacBook Pro to OS X Mavericks and now my computer won't communicate with my Brother Hl-2040 printer. The USB cord is new and the printer works perfectly. What should I do?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have gone through all of these steps, and my Mac still won't connect to my printer. I know the USB cable is fine because it prints from my other computer. I can't seem to locate the problem.

Try deleting the printer and the /Library/Printers/Brother folder and reinstalling using software update or http://support.apple.com/kb/DL894.
