Q: unable to backup my iPhone 5 to my windows 7 computer or iCloud phone keeps disconnecting

Unable to backup my iPhone 5 to my windows 7 computer or iCloud have tried using a different lead and also a different computer. Also have iPad Air which I have no trouble backing up. Have even tried restoring from previous backup but unable to because it wants to backup phone first any ideas
