HELP! I don't know what happened. Today I woke up and found the phone repeatedly rebooting itself. I couldn't do anything with it so I tried to put it to recovery mode and restore it. But every time I do so, it says "iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred.(1)

Check this support document, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 however the -1 error is usually indicative of a hardware error.
Please read this article to put your device into recovery mode prior to restoring it. I understand you said you put it into recovery mode. Just waanting to put a * on that recovery mode to verify this is the process you are using.

That is the screen I am currently on except not on the iOS 7 theme.
Your device is showing this screen because that is the screen that alerts you to the fact the device will need to be put into recovery mode to restore the device. Read the article it is all there how to correct this issue.
I did several times but the error comes out which keeps repeating over and over.

Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.
Make an appointment with the Genius Bar at Apple, or your Authorized Apple Service Provider. This is a hardware error. You have attempted the restore more than twice, so follow the directions, contact Apple.
