how long does does it take for migration assistant to finf items to transfer, it seems to be taking forever?

How long does it take for migration assistant to fine items to transfer files from MS vista? It taking forever...is this common or should it be quicker?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

That can take quite a long time if there is a lot of material to transfer, and depending on the method used...such as wireless can be very slow.

If the two machines can be networked, you can sometimes just open the old hard drive on the desktop of the Mac and drag and drop content.
