iTunes billing address does not match your banks records? (my solution/tips)
I recently purchased an iPhone 5S and was eager to download apps, but was declinded by the app store due to a billing issue (past-due balance). Okay, I thought, I'll just pay my past due balance. I submit my information and see on my card that the amount is processing, however, I still cannot purchase apps or music. I give it about a day to process, but no luck and my bank states that it should clear in 24-hours. I call the bank again and am told that it will take an additional 24-hours to clear (an obvious excuse). Upon further checking of my bank statement, I see that my card is processing multiple amounts for Apple Inc. and my balance is reduced by about $40. I call Apple to inform them that I am being charged multiple times, and the idiot call center guy tells me that it is occurring mulitple times because Apple is trying to receive the payment. I was so stunned at the guys response that I said okay, and thought to myself, so apple is just going to keep attempting to process this? I get on apple's chat support and finally start to get somewhere. The chat rep. informs me that my processing amount will never in fact process, because my billing address does not match my banks records. The rep. then tells me that I'm unable to update my info until the balance is resolved. The rep. then instructs me to purchase a gift card to clear the balance w/o having to use a credit card so that I may edit my billing info. I do so, my balance is cleared. I buy a few songs to alleviate my frustration, update my address then decide to continue purchasing. Upon attempting to continue purchasing, my billing address does not match my banks records... I call Apple again, they have me re-enter the zipcode which doesn't work and they then inform me (after escalation to a supervisor) to call my bank and have them read me off my address' punctuation, because any difference in address punctuation between what Apple has and my bank, Apple will not allow it to process. I'm on hold with the bank for about 10mins. and do what the Apple rep suggested. With a bit of a snap, the bank rep tells me that all of my info is correct... I say thanks and hang up. At this point I log onto both my bank and apple accounts and am cross checking again and again to see that I have the addresses correct for each account. Completely frustrated, with primarily Apples' customer service, (having contacting them about 5-times through chat and telephone) I log out and actually fall asleep at my computer. I start to think that I am going to have to buy gift cards forever and that I'm locked out of using a credit card with Apple online..... It's a bit late at night, thinking about the situation, that Apple cannot provide me with every possible solution to THEIR OWN PRODUCT, I log onto iTunes, looking at the screen that shows me the error: your billing address does not match your banks records and realize that there is only a slot for FIRST NAME and LAST NAME on iTunes. My name on my card is as follows: (single initial: N) (JOHN) (DOE) (Suffix: jr. sr. I II III). Technically speaking, SINGLE INITIAL and SUFFIX are my first and last name in the eyes of Apple.
MY SOLUTION: I punch in SINGLE INITIAL for the FIRST NAME and SUFFIX for the last name and BAM, I AM ABLE TO USE MY CREDIT CARD ON ITUNES!!!!
TIPS:
-Buying a iTunes giftcard will clear your past due balance and ALLOW YOU TO EDIT BILLING INFO
-Log on to your bank and itunes account information; see that your addresses do match WORD FOR WORD
-If you have a long name on your card, enter the VERY FIRST and VERY LAST segments of your name into FIRST NAME and LAST NAME on iTunes (my issue)
-Any processing amounts on your card should credit back to your bank account (depending on your bank) if you've used a gift card to clear your balance.
This is really lengthy, I know, but I really hope this helps out the people experiencing the same issue. I found forum posts on the issue, on Apples' website that go as far back as 2010. Maybe I missed where someone already provided a list of solutions in the forums, but the way I saw it, Apple customer service could not provide me with all possible solutions, assuming they are well aware since I found posts dating back to 2010. I hope this helps and best of luck!
