Error 7; itunes helper

I am still getting error 7 on my windows pc after an itunes update. It says the itunes helper wasn't installed correctly. Does anyone know a fix? Please don't ask me to uninstall everything apple and re-install again, I've done that umpteen times!

Thanks!

Windows 7

Hello there, Gemgang5.

The following Knowledge Base article provides troubleshooting steps for the very error you're describing:

iTunes for Windows: "Error 7" message when opening iTunes

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3074

Since you're using Windows 7, this particular section applies:

This issue may be caused by a bad installation of a version of Microsoft's .NET Framework. It's important to note that versions 2.0, 3.5, and 4.0 can all exist side-by-side. Click the arrow next to your OS to reveal links to the versions of Microsoft's .NET Framework that are applicable to your OS; you will need to download and install ALL of these. These links will take you to a download page. Click the download button on this page and click Save in the subsequent window to save the installer to your Downloads folder.

Windows 7:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

Note: Microsoft .NET Framework versions 2.0 and 3.5 are already installed as part of Windows 7. You can not modify the installations of these versions of the .NET Framework in Windows 7.

To resolve this issue, run these installers one at a time and follow the instructions on screen to install each applicable version of the .NET Framework. If this version of the .NET Framework is already installed, you may see a screen similar to the one shown below.

If you see this screen, select Repair and then click Next to repair the installation of the .NET Framework.

Cheers,

Pedro.

Try this approach...

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
