Can I mix 3 4gb & 1 2gb ram modules in imac 27 core i5 12,2 to give 14gb?

In a late 2012 27" iMac, you CAN mix different sizes (assuming the speed etc. is not different) but Apple state that it will take 4gb or 8gb modules and says nothing about 2gb. I would look to get an additional 4gb module and put in 4x 4gb to give 16gb.
