what DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem is recommended for compatibility to AirPort Extreme Model A1354?

What DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are recommended for compatibility to AirPort Extreme Model A1354? I purchased a Motorola SB6141 but before installing, I read there has been compatibility issue with Motorola Surfboard modems, particularly with older AirPort Extreme models. Thanks.

FWIW. I currently have a 4th generation (A1354) 802.11n AirPort Extreme base station and have used it with a number of Motorola Surfboard modems, just not the SB6141, and have never had an issue gaining Internet access with them.

Unfortunately there is no official list of compatible modems for any of the AirPort base stations. As you can imagine that doesn't indicate that all will work. In fact, in the footnotes within the earlier AirPort's advertising page on the Apple Store Apple included a statement that read something like: All modems may not be compatible. However, on the latest 802.11ac version this footnote is no longer appears. I wouldn't assume that anything has changed and this wouldn't be unique to Apple routers alone.

@Tesserax,

Thank you for your reply. No sure what generation AirPort Extreme I have in place but was purchased & put into place June 2010. The firmware have always been updated. I know there are appliances like Chromecast not compatible to AirPort routers. Do you have Comcast Xfinity? To install the cable modem, did you have to disable the AirPort from the existing cable modem, switch out the cable modem & hardwire it to your computer & walk-through the Xfinity directions. Then plug back the AirPort and allow the router to stablize to determine if the wireless connection to internet is still working?

Thanks.

Sorry, but no. I live in an area where Comcast is not available to me. Fortunately, I have been a Cox customer for over 15 years and have never experienced anything like that.

Just had Comcast Tech Support walk me through the registration of my Motorolat SB6141 to enable the modem onto my acct, activated the modem & connect my AirPort Extreme to the modem. This process took 30 minutes and behold, it is working!!! Hopefully the internet connection will remain stable and reliable as I read some horror stories from others on this setup. Thanks.
