Q: backup password only works on older backups

i found where I wrote down my backup encryption password, but it only seems to work with a backup that is a year or more old.  I never changed it, so why does it not work with the newer backups?

But even with the older backup it seems to start but then stops and tells me that there is not room enough on my phone to restore it to the old state??
