how to turn wireless back on for Time Machine

Hi

I had to reset my time machine and therefore needed to do a first back up again. As this was 1.5 TB I turned the wireless off on the Time Machine through the airport utility and connected an ethernet cable to do the backup. I now want to turn the wireless back the TM for future back ups.

In airport utility there is an ethernet & wifi connections under the 'other wifi' devices in the top left corner but i cannot edit the timemachine when in the wifi one Under the ethernet one - the wireless tab dives me the options off, extend wifi network or create wifi network.

How to I connect through wifi and turn wifi back on the TM

Thanks

Nick

Do you still have the IP of the TC you were backing up to.. or just its name..

If you have the ethernet still plugged into it, then simply type the IP into the Airport utility configure other in the top menu.

This was automatic on v5 airport utility and for some strange reason Apple no longer believe you should use ethernet. So if you turn off your wireless kiss your Airport router goodbye.. it make no sense.

Thanks very much for the reply. I do have the IP address . But when I bring up the pages as you have shown , under the wirless tap it is off and the only other options are extend or create a wireless network

Should I plug the TM into my netgear router to set up the wifi connection again or how can I connect the TM to my imac wirelessly again?

thanks

Nick

You always create a wireless network when you do not have another apple router.

You cannot extend wireless from the Netgear.

I do not understand the setup though.

If the TC is not plugged into the Netgear by ethernet.. then it is not going to work properly.. TC can join a wireless network.. but the setup is extremely tricky and the result is poor slow backups and you will kill the usefulness of the TC.. It should be plugged into the modem.. / router whatever.. it should be set in bridge mode if plugged into a router and create a wireless network.

No other type of setup works well enough to bother with.
