Help Apple TV and airplay crisis?

All software up to date on Apple TV, iPhone 5' iTunes and iPad. All devices connected to the same wifi network. Network working properly. No device displaying the airplay symbol in the control panel and airplay not displayed on iTunes. The mac desktop although using the same iTunes account has home sharing set up and is not displayed on the Apple TV. What do I do next?
